As the government moves to erase evidence of the contributions of African-Americans, Native Americans, Hispanic Americans, and other historically marginalized communities to US history and culture, Lawyers Defending American Democracy invites you to a conversation that affirms the importance of preserving and validating the truth about our past.

Join us on February 18th for a free webinar featuring two distinguished lawyers, whose lives were shaped by courage, injustice, and an enduring commitment to the rule of law, will discuss their very different journeys. LDAD Board member Nicholas Fels was a recent college graduate in 1964 who risked his life participating in the Mississippi Freedom Summer, a dangerous but important chapter in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. LDAD Board member Walter Hiawatha White, Jr. is an international corporate lawyer from a family that distinguished itself as it endured and surmounted profound bigotry as they created a legacy of resilience, excellence, and achievement.

Together, Nick and Walter will explore how their experiences and moral courage influenced their approach to the law and their current work to protect our freedoms. Their conversation will underscore how the rule of law is strengthened—not threatened—when we address the past with honesty and why the true history of the United States is central to our understanding of justice and democracy.
