As detailed in a recent article that LDAD Executive Director Lauren Stiller Rikleen wrote for the Contrarian, The Justice Department's Appalling Grift Store, the DOJ is increasingly demonstrating that it exists to serve the administration's interests, and not those of the public. The past weeks have been filled with examples of conflicts of interest, pardons, and taxpayer-funded payouts to the politically connected, including the President’s allies and, according to recent reporting, possibly soon to the President and his family.

• Writing an op-ed or letter to the editor focused on the issues detailed in the Alert;
• Using social media or LinkedIn to share fact-based information and raise awareness
• Engaging your local community, civic organizations, or professional networks in discussions about these issues;
• Contacting elected officials to urge oversight and safeguards relating to presidential conflicts of interest and DOJ settlements; and
• Encouraging all bar associations to speak publicly in defense of prosecutorial independence, ethics standards, and equal justice under law.

This is an important moment to speak out. Public confidence in the justice system depends on the principle that no individual, regardless of wealth, political influence, or public office, receives special treatment. When such actions are met with silence, they risk becoming normalized. Collective public engagement and advocacy are critically important right now.
