Action Alert: Stop the FTC from Undermining State AI Protections

LDAD has issued a new Action Alert to encourage comments on a proposed FTC policy statement that would, in effect, allow the FTC to undermine the right of every state to regulate AI in a way that minimizes biased results in key areas.

Please note that the comment period closes before midnight on Friday, July 31. 

In essence, this is an issue about ensuring that every state can act to reduce and prevent discriminatory outcomes from intruding into AI results, particularly in such sensitive areas as hiring, insurance, lending, and medical care. Without such measures, historically biased and unrepresentative data can produce AI responses that reflect biased inputs. The proposed FTC policy could discourage companies from complying with these state AI laws. The Action Alert details ways that this proposed policy is unconstitutional and in violation of law.
